Summary

SEN HLTA or Experienced SEN TA role, Part-Time, Home Schooling, Bath, Somerset

We are looking for someone to work with our lovely 15 year old daughter, one or two days a week for 4-5 hours during term time, ideally to start in April 2026, and then onto the school year 2026-7.

This role would be working closely one to one with our daughter, if you enjoy forming a relationship with the children you work with, and seeing first hand how you have helped them develop and blossom over time in their own special way, this could be a role for you.

We are located on the outskirts of Bath and have had a homeschooling teacher in place with us working 2 full days, for two and a half years, which has worked well. Now our daughter is a teenager, we want to adjust things to focus on independence and communication. We have a flexi-schooling agreement with the special school she attends (3 days a week) and you will get support and work with her teacher there, as well as a great SLT and other experienced therapists. Learning outside school works well as our daughter loves people and gets distracted by her peers in the classroom, and it is important due to her condition that her learning is accelerated by 1:1 provision.

Although our daughter's understanding is good, her communication is mainly by facial expression and gesture. Your role might include for example, encouraging communication in different situations, expanding her ability to express ideas using her AAC, and building independence and positive experiences of real-life situations.

Our daughter has a sunny personality, a good sense of humour, and loves people, music, books and stories, but has special needs due to a genetic condition. We are looking for someone who can adapt to use her interests and passions to teach her and would like to explore teaching in a range of settings including outdoor activities, cooking, physical exercise and outings to the library or shops. You will have flexibility to work in the way that best suits you both.

Our current homeschooling teacher has gained experience in a range of new areas as we have explored them with our daughter, for example, we are currently looking into using eye-gaze technology, and you would receive training in using that.

We are looking for someone to work for the whole school year. Pay rates based on teaching rates and dependant on experience.
