Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a junior research clinical fellow to join the research team within the Royal Liverpool Hospital Site of UHLG.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous cardiology experience along with proficient research skills, it is essential that you will have experience of managing a commercial research portfolio.

The post is for a period of up to 12 months - fixed term.

The successful post holder would be looking to gain training in both research methodology and clinical cardiology. The post is primarily aimed at those who would wish to develop a research project to be taken forward into a higher degree (MD or PhD depending on the wishes of the successful candidate and the nature of the project) over a further 2-3 year period. However, consideration would also be given to those wishing to use the year as a prelude to application for an STR training programme in cardiology.

Department of Cardiology, is seeking a clinical/research fellow for an initial period of 12 months.

Time will be split approximately 60:40 between research and clinical duties. The successful candidate would be responsible for the day to day medical supervision of our portfolio of commercial clinical research studies and would receive training in commercial research methodology and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) under the direct supervision of the cardiology research lead, Dr. Mike Fisher. In addition, they would be responsible for delivery of the cardiology input into the Robert Jones Alkaptonuria Unit, a European centre for delivery of coordinated care to patients with this rare inborn metabolic condition. There will be the opportunity to develop a research proposal suitable for a higher degree and the intention would be to secure competitive grant funding for this. If this is successful, the candidate would then be able to continue into a full research fellowship, with the option to register the degree at either the University of Liverpool, or Imperial University London depending on the nature of the project.

The clinical sessions are negotiable, but it is suggested that there would be 4 sessions per week, consisting of 2 ward based or clinical sessions and 2 sessions of procedural training designed to meet the needs and aspirations of the candidate. In addition participation in the cardiology on call rota is a requirement (please see job description for details).
