Summary

Functional Skills Tutor (Maths & English) – SEN & Employability

Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire

Salary: £28,706 - £31,003 (Dependent on experience)

Contract: Full-Time, 18-Month Fixed Term (Maternity Cover)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Includes 1 full day for planning/admin)

Tired of the rigid Academic Calendar? Unlike traditional colleges, we don’t follow the standard term-time schedule. This means you have the flexibility to take your annual leave throughout the year, offering you a much better work-life balance while making a genuine impact.

The Role

Are you a passionate Educator or SEN Specialist ready to bridge the gap between education and employment? Join our vibrant Supported Internship program in Northampton.

We are looking for a creative Functional Skills Tutor to empower young people with learning disabilities and autism. You won’t just be teaching from a textbook; you’ll be designing "outside the box" lessons that integrate Maths and English into real-world employability skills, helping our learners secure paid employment and independence.

What’s in it for you?

  • Dedicated Planning Time: We provide one full day every week for planning and admin—no more taking marking home every night.
  • Flexible Leave: Break free from term-time restrictions.
  • Professional Growth: We value your development. If you don't have a Level 5 teaching qualification yet, we will support you to achieve it post-probation.
  • Impact: You are the catalyst that helps a young person transition from education into a career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Accredited Qualifications: Teach Functional Skills (English & Maths) up to Level 2.
  • Inspire & Engage: Create dynamic lessons that spark curiosity and foster a love of learning.
  • Develop Life Skills: Equip learners with the practical tools they need to navigate their communities confidently.
  • Collaborate: Work within a supportive team to provide holistic support for every intern.

About You (Requirements)

Essential:

  • Education: GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) is mandatory.
  • Teaching Background: Experience delivering Functional Skills (English & Maths) up to Level 2.
  • Classroom Management: Strong ability to manage diverse learning needs and behaviours.
  • Performance Driven: Proven ability to meet targets and KPIs.

Qualifications:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS) is preferred.
  • Candidates with a Level 3 qualification and a willingness to work towards a Level 5 will also be considered.

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting individuals with SEN, learning disabilities, or autism.
  • Background in Supported Internships or vocational training.

How to Apply

If you have a positive, resilient attitude and a passion for SEN education, we want to hear from you!

Please note: Interviews will be held shortly. Successful candidates will be required to provide evidence of GCSE English/Maths and Teaching Qualifications at the interview stage.
