About the Client
Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Adult Services Directorate provides essential support to adults with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and learning disabilities. The Occupational Therapy and Specialist Assessment Team plays a vital role in promoting independence, preventing escalation of need and enabling residents to remain safely at home for as long as possible.
The Role
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Adult Services Occupational Therapy and Specialist Assessment Team. The post holder will assess adults with a range of complex needs, recommending aids, adaptations and interventions that promote independence, safety and social inclusion. The role includes manual handling assessments, evaluating the effectiveness of interventions, and supporting junior staff and students as required.
This position is central to helping the Council reduce reliance on care packages, support safe community living and maintain strong multi‑agency relationships across health, social care and voluntary sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out occupational therapy assessments, interventions and evaluations for adults with complex needs
Assess for aids to independence, minor and major adaptations, and manual handling requirements
Monitor progress of adaptation works and equipment provision, including reviews
Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team and liaise with social workers, NHS colleagues and partner agencies
Support and supervise junior staff, students and Occupational Therapy Assistants
Maintain accurate, contemporaneous case notes and ensure all activity is recorded on the computer‑based data system
Contribute to service development within the Vale of Glamorgan catchment area
Prepare for and attend supervision with the Team Manager
Attend and contribute to team meetings, including leading where appropriate
Ensure compliance with Council policies, Financial Regulations, Standing Orders and Health & Safety requirements
Promote equal opportunities and non‑discriminatory practice
Implement the Council’s Environment Policy in day‑to‑day duties
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required
Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications
Qualified Occupational Therapist (HCPC registered)
Relevant experience working with adults with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and/or learning disabilities
Essential Experience & Skills
Experience delivering OT assessments, interventions and evaluations
Knowledge of aids, adaptations, manual handling and community‑based OT practice
Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary and multi‑agency environment
Strong organisational and administrative skills, including accurate record keeping
Ability to supervise and support junior staff and students
Understanding of information governance, data protection and safeguarding
Commitment to promoting independence and reducing reliance on care packages
Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload
