Summary

Are you passionate about helping businesses grow globally? Join the Greater Manchester International Trade Service at the Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub (GMBGH) and play a key role in supporting both start-ups and established companies to achieve sustainable international success.

This role sits within the Greater Manchester International Trade Service at the GMBGH, supporting both start-ups and established businesses to achieve sustainable international growth. Working in line with Greater Manchester’s International Strategy and in partnership with organisations such as the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Department for Business and Trade, and Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

You will deliver high-quality, tailored export advice, helping businesses assess their growth potential, identify barriers to international expansion, and develop practical action plans to achieve their ambitions. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact by supporting local businesses to grow globally and strengthen Greater Manchester’s international presence.

Key responsibility:

Manage client enquiries via phone and email, assessing growth potential and business needs using appropriate tools, processes and systems, while building and maintaining effective relationships with key client contacts.
Ensure potential clients meet project eligibility criteria by carrying out initial checks before formal assessment and action planning.
Undertake detailed export readiness diagnostics using a range of tools to capture baseline data, identify needs, and develop international growth action plans, including analysis of business and market intelligence to inform recommendations.
Hold in-depth discussions with clients to understand complex business challenges, providing sound recommendations and managing interventions through to a successful conclusion.
Deliver bespoke export support to help businesses achieve their growth potential, including a multi-disciplinary approach and referrals to internal teams, core partners (e.g. Department for Business and Trade, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, GMCA) and wider networks.
Introduce clients to appropriate internal and external services, monitoring delivery to ensure alignment with their strategy and to address identified barriers to export growth.
Support the design, coordination and delivery of international trade events and missions, including promotion, business engagement and logistical coordination.
Ensure accurate recording of client activity, enquiries and outcomes on CRM systems, maintaining high standards of administration, data quality and compliance with funder requirements.
About you:

At least degree-level business education, or an equivalent professional qualification, or relevant business experience.
Extensive sector/business experience in the private sector, including at senior management or Director level.
Proven track record of managing a range of business issues associated with periods of international business growth.
Experience of working effectively within a professional team.
Professional approach to managing and delivering business assessment, advice and development.
A team player who is also a self-starter, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Skills Required:

Strong sales and account management skills.
Excellent presentation skills, both written and oral.
Facilitation and workshop delivery skills.
Excellent communication and networking skills.
Strong planning, organisational, administrative and project management skills.
Well-developed IT skills, including experience of management information systems, spreadsheets, diary management, email and CRM databases.
