Summary
The Band 7 Security Lead will provide strategic and operational security oversight during the mobilisation, pre-opening, and early operational phases of Coombe Valley Hospital. The post holder will ensure that all security arrangements, policies, and systems are fully operational, compliant, and aligned with NHS standards, safeguarding patients, staff, and assets. This is a time-limited bank post, reporting directly to the Head of Security Services, designed to provide flexible, high-level leadership in line with the hospitals phased operational requirements. Main Responsibilities 1. Strategic Security Leadership Lead security planning and delivery for the hospital mobilisation and early operation. Provide expert advice and updates to the Head of Security Services and senior operational teams. Ensure security arrangements are risk-assessed, compliant, and aligned to organisational objectives. 2. Operational Policy Development Develop, implement, and maintain operational security policies and procedures. Embed policies into practice, ensuring staff understanding and compliance. 3. Security Systems Oversight Oversee commissioning, testing, and operationalisation of security systems including access control, CCTV, alarms, and other protective measures. Conduct audits and quality checks to ensure functionality and compliance. 4. Risk Assessment and Compliance Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks across the hospital. Ensure adherence to NHS security frameworks, Health & Safety legislation, and NHSE Mental Health Performance standards. 5. Staff Training and Support Deliver on-site training for staff on security procedures, incident reporting, emergency response, and use of security systems. Act as a point of guidance for operational teams on security-related matters. 6. Incident Management Serve as the senior point of contact for security incidents during mobilisation and early operation. Ensure appropriate escalation, documentation, investigation, and reporting of incidents. 7. Project Support and Assurance Contribute to operational readiness planning, workforce onboarding, and mobilisation activities. Provide assurance to the Head of Security Services and project governance teams that security arrangements are robust, tested, and aligned to programme milestones. 8. Governance and Reporting Maintain accurate records of policies, risk assessments, training, and incidents. Contribute to governance reports, briefings, and project documentation as required. Person Specification Proven experience in senior security or operational leadership, ideally in healthcare or a highly regulated environment. Experience in policy development, operational procedures, and staff training. Strong understanding of NHS security frameworks, statutory compliance, and Health & Safety legislation. Ability to provide practical recommendations, implement change, and influence multiple stakeholders. Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
