We are seeking a confident financial leader to advise Directors General and Directors, driving robust financial planning, management, and well‑informed decision‑making. This varied role is ideal for someone who excels at building strong stakeholder relationships, constructively challenging assumptions, and guiding colleagues through complex issues. Working within the Department for Transport’s diverse portfolio—from major infrastructure projects to future transport technologies—you will be supporting a major areas of policy or programme delivery, working with a variety of different professionals amid evolving priorities and wider developments.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:Leading a Finance Business Partner team that advises a DG group on its performance against business plansSupporting DGs and Directors in the development of business plans and leading on the development of longer-term financial plans, including input and challenge to Spending Review returnsProviding sound financial management to the DG Group's expenditure within agreed budgets and presenting key financial messages and issues at Senior Team Leadership meetingsDeveloping and implementing action plans to improve the accuracy of forecasting, providing constructive and robust challenge to ensure forecasts are central caseEngaging with the business to evaluate investment and spending proposalsProviding advice and scrutiny to submissions proposed by policy teams and evaluation of business cases supporting investment decisions. Working on financial issues with a range of stakeholders including HMTOversee and monitor the completion of the year-end accounts process for your DG GroupBe an ambassador and advocate for the wider Finance Business Partner Team and ensuring join-up with teams cross Group Finance and wider in delivering an excellent and efficient service to our customersWork with business units to ensure that they understand the basics of the financial management and control regime, coordinate and provide financial training where appropriateGreat line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills they need. We aim to empower line managers to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.
