Summary
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Maintenance Engineer based in Cardiff.
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and upkeep of the hotel’s facilities, equipment, and systems.
Key responsibilities include carrying out planned preventive maintenance, responding promptly to maintenance issues, and troubleshooting faults across a range of building systems including electrical, plumbing, heating, and general fabric repairs. You will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for guests and staff, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel operations.
The role also involves conducting routine inspections, maintaining accurate maintenance records, supporting compliance with health and safety regulations, and assisting with ongoing improvement of the property. You will work closely with all departments to respond efficiently to maintenance requests and uphold the overall standard of the hotel.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out planned preventive maintenance across all areas of the hotel
• Respond to reactive maintenance issues in a timely and efficient manner
• Troubleshoot and repair faults in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building systems
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues proactively
• Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety regulations
• Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities and completed work
• Support room maintenance to ensure guest rooms meet required standards
• Liaise with external contractors when required
• Assist in maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of the hotel
Qualifications
• Proven experience in a maintenance or engineering role, ideally within hospitality or a similar environment
• Strong practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance
• Experience with preventive maintenance and fault-finding
• Relevant technical qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent) are preferred
• Basic understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
• Flexible and reliable, with the ability to respond to urgent issues when required
