The IT Technician position has a workload consisting of technical systems administration duties and end-user support working alongside an existing team and the IT Services Manager. Most work will remain office based at William Morris School, at the Trust’s headquarters or its other sites as needed.
This role is an excellent opportunity for a candidate just leaving full time education studying an IT related qualification and starting a career in IT. You will be guided into the role using the technologies and tools in use at the Trust by the existing team, but a fundamental understanding and good knowledge of concepts will be required.
Responsibilities for this role:
• Act as first-line support for end users, troubleshooting IT faults and ensuring all requests are logged.
• Travel to local schools to provide occasional onsite support where required.
• Act upon requests/reports to solve unexpected IT problems and ensure all requests are logged.
• Provide support to IT users, including provision of technical classroom support including providing IT training for school staff.
• Take responsibility for the maintenance of computer software and hardware and liaise with IT equipment suppliers and visiting engineers as appropriate.
• Liaising with students and parents who require support in accessing and using appropriate school systems.
• Undertake first/second line maintenance.
• Administer accounts, email and user groups ensuring these are secure and up to date.
• Provide advice and support to members of the teaching staff regarding the use of IT equipment.
• Undertake professional development to ensure technical knowledge and expertise remains contemporary to deliver the role.
• Have knowledge of and comply with data protection legislation and all school data protection policies.
• Ensure high levels of confidentiality are maintained when dealing with data relating to staff and students.
• Perform complete installations on new PCs.
• Install new and upgraded computer software and hardware.
• Install and maintain all peripheral devices within the school.
• Promote the use of paperless technologies.
• To assist in the setup and maintenance of the school’s audio and visual equipment for assemblies, functions and events, such as sports day & activities week
• Develop online media resources in conjunction with staff and departments.
• Providing a timely and appropriate response to end-user support issues from an IT support helpdesk.
• Writing documentation able to be understood by any level of IT skill.

Requirements for this role are:
• Full driving licence.
• Minimum of Level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy (eg. GCSE English and Maths at grades A*-C)
• Minimum of a relevant IT-based Level 3 qualification (eg. BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Information Technology) but preferable a relevant IT Degree
• Acquired, working towards, or willing to work towards a relevant IT based certification (eg. CompTIA, Microsoft Certs)
• Problem-solving and willingness to learn new skills and procedures
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to effectively prioritise workload
• Flexibility in dealing with projects and working on several projects simultaneously including some out-of-hours work
• Ability to work on individual projects and as a member of a team.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft desktop and at a minimum, understanding server OS systems administration
