The Caretaker will ensure that MIAG’s premises, grounds, and facilities are safe, secure, clean, and well-maintained, supporting a positive and safe learning environment. In addition to site management duties, the postholder will contribute to learner engagement by supporting individual and small groups of learners with SEMH needs on practical projects and qualification-focused activities, under the direction of teaching and support staff. This role is predominantly based at our site in Brislington, Bristol, BS4 5RG, on occasions you may be required to support maintenance programmes at other provisions across the South-West.Key Responsibilities:
Site and Premises Management
Maintain the security of buildings and grounds, including opening and closing procedures, alarm systems, and key management
Carry out routine inspections of the site and report defects, hazards, or maintenance issues promptly
Undertake minor repairs, basic maintenance, and DIY tasks as appropriate
Monitor contractors on site, ensuring compliance with MIAG policies and health and safety requirements
Ensure outdoor areas are safe, tidy, and fit for purpose
Health & Safety and Compliance
Support the implementation of MIAG’s Health & Safety policy and procedures
Maintain awareness of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) requirements and ensure safe storage, handling, and use of substances
Contribute to risk assessments, including site-specific and activity-based assessments
Ensure fire safety procedures are followed, including checks of fire exits, alarms, and equipment
Maintain records relating to health and safety, maintenance, and compliance as required
Cleaning and Facilities Support
Be responsible for the cleanliness of the indoor spaces across the site and ensure that the management of contractors adheres to policies and procedures
Ensure classrooms, communal areas, toilets, and external areas meet expected standards of cleanliness and safety
Support room set-up and layout for learning activities, meetings, and events
Learner Support and Engagement (SEMH Focus)
Work alongside teaching and support staff to support individual learners and small groups with SEMH needs on practical, vocational, and project-based activities
Assist with small-scale projects (e.g. maintenance, gardening, refurbishment, construction, or environmental projects) that contribute to accredited or qualification-focused learning
Model positive behaviour, promote MIAG’s values, and support learners to develop practical skills, teamwork, and resilience
Follow safeguarding, behaviour, and risk management procedures when working with learners
Safeguarding and Professional Responsibilities
Adhere to MIAG’s safeguarding, child protection, and behaviour policies at all times
Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
Participate in training, supervision, and performance management processes
