Summary
Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all surgical specialties concerned with the Anaesthetic Directorate. Personal arrangements will be required to maintain a logbook and evidence of continuing professional development through an established appraisal system. The post holder should maintain a logbook in accordance with RCoA. Provide safe anaesthesia to a wide range of surgical specialties, under the direct or more distant supervision of a consultant. Two consultants are present on site until 2200 hrs Monday to Friday for critical care and general/maternity emergencies and during the day at the weekend. There are 5 tiers of on-call junior doctors for anaesthetics with a primary responsibility to the Critical Care Unit, Obstetric Unit or Emergency Theatre and the on-call frequency is currently 1:8. Responsibilities will include the supervision of junior staff, teaching, training and participation in departmental governance and quality improvement meetings.
