Summary
Post holders can expect: To build upon postgraduate clinical experience a To develop further expertise in the identification and management of the sick patient To gain experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of medical conditions, including making appropriate decisions regarding the need for admission, the development of strategies which might provide an alternative to admission and identifying where early discharge would be safe and appropriate To further develop skills of history taking, physical examination, appropriate investigation and rational prescribing To master a number of procedural techniques To hone communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues To develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities. To increasingly work towards independent practice at Registrar level, leading ward rounds, assessing patients, making decisions etc. with Consultant support and supervision available at all times All posts are on a full shift rota (long days, nights, weekends). The rota level will depend on experience but will either be at IM3 level or our ST4+ GIM rota. Both rotas cover both City and QMC out of hours.
