This is a varied and fast paced role that offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and support a broad range of RSU functions. The role contributes to progressing regional business and includes collating and analysing operational and people related information across the region to help inform service improvement and staff engagement.
About us
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales, along with non-devolved tribunals in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. We’re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and making a difference in people’s lives to deliver justice. If you are interested in developing a career with a real purpose, please apply.
Your role
As an Operational Support Officer, you will provide consistent, high quality administrative and personal support to the Regional SLT. You will act as a central coordination point for activity across the region: managing information, analysing data, supporting meetings, and ensuring leadership time is used effectively.
This role requires excellent organisation, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage competing demands in a fast moving environment. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across regional functions including Operations, People, and Performance, contributing to effective decision making and service improvement.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience
• Interpersonal skills to deal with queries on behalf of SLT members, and engage with stakeholders internally and externally, including the judiciary at all levels.
• Organisational and planning skills to support the work and diary commitments of the Regional Delivery Director, Heads of Operations, Service Improvement & Performance Lead, and to help support the activities of the Head of RSU, People Lead and Performance Lead.
• Project delivery skills to help support the delivery of ad hoc regional projects.
• Analytical skills to analyse and interpret regional data and provide useful insight to help drive operational delivery across the region.
• Good understanding of the operation and region is desirable to be able to provide operational context to delivery of plans etc.
• Good communications skills, written and verbal, with knowledge of Microsoft office (training will be given).
Please refer to the job description attachment to understand the full scope of the role.
Your Development
The role of a manager is at the heart of HMCTS operations, shaped by the Civil Service Line Management Standards. It’s rewarding, challenging, and essential to our success. Our HMCTS Leadership Development offer will build your confidence and capability as a leader. From bite-sized learning and interactive workshops to deeper insights through our Accountability & Decision-Making framework, we’ll equip you to lead with impact, inspire your teams, and drive performance across the organisation.
