The Opportunity

As our new GCSE English Teacher in the Direct Entry 14–16 department, you’ll make a real difference to our learners who join us from a wide range of educational backgrounds. You’ll deliver engaging, accessible GCSE English lessons that build confidence, strengthen essential skills and help our students achieve the qualifications they need to progress.

You’ll teach small groups of 14–16-year-olds who can succeed in a nurturing and inclusive setting. You’ll adapt your teaching to meet diverse needs, use creative strategies to spark engagement and develop positive, trusting relationships that motivate our learners to do their best. You’ll also work closely with specialist support staff to ensure every student feels understood, valued and supported.

In this role, you’ll design and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons that stretch and support our learners at all levels. You’ll monitor progress closely and provide constructive, encouraging feedback that helps students grow both in English and personally.

Alongside your teaching, you’ll play an important pastoral role—helping learners feel safe, confident and ready to succeed. You’ll contribute to a positive, collaborative departmental culture, working with colleagues to uphold excellent standards across the programme and create an environment where every learner can flourish.

About You

You’re someone who genuinely believes that every young person deserves the chance to succeed, regardless of their starting point. You bring energy, patience and a real passion for helping 14–16-year-olds build confidence and achieve their potential.

You’re a skilled and enthusiastic English teacher who knows how to make GCSE content feel accessible, engaging and relevant. You’re confident in adapting your teaching to meet a wide range of learning needs and you enjoy finding creative ways to bring English to life.
You build strong, positive relationships and create a classroom where learners feel safe, respected and motivated. You’re calm, empathetic and consistent, using supportive behaviour management that helps students feel guided—not judged.

You’re a team player who values collaboration, shares ideas openly and enjoys contributing to a positive departmental culture. You’re reflective, proactive and always looking for ways to grow and refine your practice.

Above all, you care about the whole learner. You take pride in supporting young people not only academically but pastorally, helping them develop independence, self-belief and the confidence they need to succeed.
