Summary
Location: Agile working with one day a week at Bedlington Police Station
(This role supports agile working, with the flexibility to work remotely. However, the successful candidate will be required to attend the Bedlington office one day per week, and occasionally for meetings, training, or other business needs as required.)
Hours/Contract: Permanent 29.5 hours per week over 4 days.

Our busy team complete vetting for all new colleagues joining the Force, current employees, contractors, volunteers and partnership workers. We make difficult decisions that protect our Force and maintain public trust – ensuring that we operate with the utmost integrity and professionalism.
We’re looking for a self-motivated individual to join our team in a varied role where no two days or cases are the same. You’ll be providing a high standard of vetting service that meets the needs of the organisation, reduces risk and protects the public. This is an important role where you’ll need to work to a high standard and be able to carry out detailed research and make sound decisions. You’ll be researching, collating information, preparing reports and making decisions in line with Vetting Code of Practice, Vetting Authorised Professional Practice, guidance and local force policies. You’ll need to be a problem solver who enjoys collating and using information to deliver effective results.

What you’ll do
- Research and preparing vetting reports to the highest standard. Recording these accurately on the vetting database.
- Interrogate relevant systems and information in line with the College of Policing Code of Vetting Practice, Authorised Professional Practice and, force vetting policy to undertake research into individuals.
- Reviewing and processing vetting applications to ensure they are complete and comply with force policy and procedure.
- Carrying out risk assessments using the information gathered and ensuring auditable rationale is produced for vetting decisions.
- Liaising with external stakeholders to ensure vetting is carried out fairly and consistently.
- Identifying cases where information needs further assessing prior to decision making.
- Acting as point of contact for vetting matters, assisting with candidate interviews and carrying out telephone enquiries.
- Supporting other forces with vetting requests
What you’ll bring
- The ability to problem-solve and make robust decisions using information you have researched and collated.
- Strong planning and organisation skills – you’ll have a busy workload that will need to prioritise and deliver on.
- Be a confident communicator, both orally and in written reports.
- Possess and maintain high levels of integrity and confidentiality, demonstrating a responsible attitude towards information gathered.
- You’ll be good at working as part of a team but also able to adapt to working alone and to time scale targets.
- We’d love for you to have experience of carrying out research either in a professional or educational setting but it’s not essential as training will be provided.

Terms of appointment
This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
