Further details about the role

At St Swithun’s Catholic Primary School, we are dedicated to nurturing a community where both staff and pupils can truly flourish. Our mission — “Love one another as I have loved you” — guides everything we do and shapes our caring, aspirational, and inclusive culture.

Our recent Ofsted inspection (February 2025) affirmed our strong practice, celebrating our ethos, high expectations, and exceptional focus on staff wellbeing:

• “Pupils behave exceptionally well and show consistently high levels of respect towards each other and staff.”
• “Adults engage pupils in high-quality interactions and involve them in meaningful learning experiences.”
• “The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.”
• “Professional development is also a priority at the school, which gives staff the opportunity to share knowledge and learn from one another.”
• “Parents and carers are overwhelmingly positive about the school, with 100% saying they would recommend St Swithun’s to others.” – Parent View (Ofsted)

We are proud to be an oversubscribed, ‘Good’ Catholic primary school and nursery, known for our warm, welcoming environment where every child is valued. Our wonderfully diverse community — with over 50 home languages represented — is one of our greatest strengths, and our families, staff and governors work together to ensure every child thrives academically, socially and spiritually.

We are now seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed class teacher to join our team from January 2026. Being a Catholic or practising Christian is an advantage but not essential — we warmly welcome applicants of all backgrounds who are supportive of our mission and ethos and bring a genuine commitment to our children.

We have a strong culture of professional learning and offer excellent support for all staff. We particularly welcome applications from Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and provide a well-structured, nurturing induction programme, alongside opportunities for more experienced colleagues to continue growing and developing in their practice.

At St Swithun’s, we believe in helping every member of our community — pupils and staff alike — to grow, achieve and flourish in a culture rooted in care, respect and joy in learning.

Commitment to safeguarding

PCC & St Swithun’s Catholic Primary School are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS Disclosure at Enhanced level, and any other background checks, including overseas checks will be required prior to any offer of employment. You will need to demonstrate that you have a Right to Work in the UK. No post will be offered without it.
