Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, driven and enthusiastic Band 5 Healthcare Science Practitioner in cardiology or 3rd year PTP student (subject to qualification and local competency sign off) to join our busy team within the Cardio-Respiratory department at Mid Cheshire Hospital Trust.

The department offers a range of non-invasive diagnostic services including ECG, ambulatory ECG monitoring and analysis, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, exercise tolerance testing, pacemaker follow up, echocardiography including bubble studies and specialist valve clinics.

As part of the departmental succession plan, there will be further opportunities to develop more advanced clinical skills and knowledge within the modality as they arise.

The postholder will work 37.5 hours per week, including weekends on a rota basis and will be expected to rotate between both Leighton and Northwich Victoria sites and will play an integral part in future service developments such as additional Community Diagnostic Centre settings.

The service will run 08:00 - 18:00 Mon-Sat. Hours may include weekend and evenings.

We are looking for highly motivated, innovative, and experienced Healthcare Science Practitioner / 3rd year PTP student to join our team. Once qualified, you will act as an autonomous practitioner providing non-invasive cardiac diagnostic investigations on both inpatients and outpatients in a variety of clinical settings.

Main duties include: To be competent in performing a range of routine Cardiac Physiology clinical-technical procedures / techniques, and be working towards becoming an advanced practitioner in at least one specialist field. As a practitioner to assist Senior Cardiac Physiologists in providing an organised and efficient clinical-technical input to the diagnostic investigations and therapeutic services of the department.

As a professional Specialist Healthcare Scientist, assist in the maintenance of standards and quality of the clinical-technical Cardiac Physiology services, including training of junior staff and peers.

To foster good working relationships – through adequate, timely and appropriate communication – with all other staff, and Patients, with whom the post-holder interacts during the course of their work.

To competently perform and interpret 12 lead ECG’s on adults and paediatric out-patient and in-patients in a variety of clinical settings.

To competently fit, download and analyse ambulatory ECG (24-hour, 48-hour, 78-hour, and 7day tests) and BP recordings.

To competently assist Senior Physiologists in exercise tolerance testing, recording measurements (including manual blood pressure), monitoring and reporting all findings.

Show understanding of range of non-routine healthcare science activities acquired through training to degree or equivalent level of knowledge.

To make judgements within own area of competence, identifying the correct application of procedure and when to report a problem or contra indication. Obtain a brief medical history from patients to ensure all assessments undertaken are done so safely and appropriately.

To have a knowledge and understanding of a range of health and safety measures, infection prevention and control, their importance, and their application within your work area.

To respond to emergency situations whilst maintaining professional standards and seeking assistance were required effectively, promptly and professionally.



Person Specification:
• BSC Clinical Physiology, Practitioner Training Programme or equivalent. Experience of working as a Healthcare Science Practitioner.
• Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of healthcare science activities developed through experience as a Healthcare Science practitioner or degree placements.
• Knowledge and understanding in the recording and interpretation of ECG, ambulatory ECG and Ambulatory BP.
