Our work on the Lower Thames Crossing will transform journeys and support regional growth, but we know that major infrastructure can also impact people’s day-to-day lives. So, in this role you will be part of a high-profile, nationally significant project where you can see the impact of your work every day you’ll be working as part of a team that values respect, trust, and community relationships and that’s where you come in.

What you’ll be doing, you’ll be at the heart of the community, visible, approachable, and proactive.

This role is about real conversations, real relationships, and real impact.

What you'll be doing

You will:

  • Act as the face of the project for local communities, landowners, and stakeholders
  • Spend time on-site and in local areas, engaging directly with people affected by the works
  • Build trusted relationships through honest, clear, and timely communication
  • Listen to concerns, manage expectations, and help resolve issues with empathy and professionalism
  • Organise and attend community events, drop-ins, and stakeholder meetings
  • Work closely with construction teams to understand upcoming activity and reduce disruption where possible
  • Translate technical project information into clear, accessible updates for the public
  • Handle enquiries and complaints in a way that protects relationships and builds confidence
  • Monitor community sentiment and flag emerging issues early
  • Help ensure the project delivers meaningful social value to the communities it serves

Who we're looking for

About you

You’re not just a communication, you’re a relationship builder who is comfortable working face-to-face with a wide range of people.

You’ll likely already be working in community relations or stakeholder engagement, and you understand the importance of being present, visible, and responsive.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience working directly with communities and stakeholders
  • Confidence engaging with people in person, including in challenging or sensitive situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills—you know how to build rapport and earn trust quickly
  • The ability to stay calm, professional, and solutions-focused when handling concerns or complaints
  • Excellent communication skills, including simplifying complex or technical information
  • A proactive mindset—you don’t wait for issues, you get ahead of them

What will set you apart

  • Experience in infrastructure, construction, or highways projects
  • Background in managing stakeholder issues on live or high-impact projects
  • Experience running community events or consultations
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly
