Part Time Field Interviewer – Office for National Statistics (ONS)
12 month temporary contract, with potential extension
AMS is recruiting confident and people focused Field Interviewers to support the Office for National Statistics across multiple UK locations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys engaging with the public, working independently, and contributing to research that shapes national policy.
What the role involves
• Visiting pre selected households chosen through a statistical sample (not volunteers).
• Conducting structured interviews and collecting accurate data using digital tools.
• Explaining the purpose of the study clearly and building rapport quickly.
• Managing your own schedule, travel, and admin tasks.
• Representing the ONS professionally in the community.
Essential requirements
• Access to a car and a full UK driving licence for travel between sampled addresses.
• Strong communication skills and confidence speaking with a wide range of people.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Flexibility to work across varied hours, including evenings and Saturdays.
Working pattern
• Average 22 hours per week
• Interview visits take place between 09:00 and 20:00
• Shifts may fall across: 09:00–12:00, 12:00–18:00, 18:00–20:00, and Saturdays 09:00–20:00
• Some admin and travel may occur outside these times.
Pay and contract
• £13.25 per hour
• Holiday pay: £1.99 per hour
• Total hourly rate: £15.24
• Start date: Once pre employment checks are completed
• Contract: 12 months, with potential to extend
