Summary
Summary of the Role
The residential waking night work role is designed for someone who has the passion for working with young people with extremely complex needs and often can’t access mainstream housing and homeless services
The post requires you to work as part of a team to provide a waking night service in our 24/7 accommodation-based service to young people aged 16-25years.
Ensure that the health and safety of young people and the building is paramount, including housekeeping relating to general cleaning tasks and preparing for a new young person moving in.
To work using a strength-based approach to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. Ensure they are adhering to project rules, licence agreements and support the development of their independent living skills for future resettlement.
The residential waking night worker is based in 24/ 7 services working on a rota basis this includes evening and weekends as required on the rota. The role will require some bank holiday working.
Key Responsibilities
• Safeguarding
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people overnight
• Be the initial point of contact for the young people during your night shift
• Respond appropriately to enquiries and concerns received from our young people, neighbours and the emergency services.
• Record information accurately and completing relevant forms following incidents or accidents.
• Escalate concerns appropriately and maintain professional boundaries and model safe, respectful behaviour.
• Person-Centred and Trauma-Informed working practice
• Update inform case notes relating to your interaction with young people regarding support, concerns, safeguarding, case work completed.
• Record accurately and comprehensively, any contact with our young people, contractors or partners.
• Ensure young people’s wishes, feelings, and strengths inform all planning
• Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and autonomy
• To respond effectively to any of our young person’s or neighbour complaints, dealing with any complex and difficult situations in a professional manner.
• Provide a welcoming and professional presence to our young people and visitors while maintaining excellent customer service at all times.
Environmental and Health Safety, Cleaning and Hygiene
• Ensure the safety and security of the service and the wellbeing of our young people, carrying out Health and Safety related activities in accordance with procedures.
• Conduct regular and effective property/locality management patrols as required.
• To be responsible for your own health and safety, and that of anybody else who may be affected by your acts or omissions.
• Follow local fire alarm, safety and evacuation procedures.
• Report any maintenance and health & safety concerns to the appropriate person.
• Report repairs as per Roundabout procedures and arrange for out of hours emergency repairs as required. Deal with minor maintenance issues, flooding and spillages if required during your shift.
• Carry out housekeeping tasks, general cleaning and preparing rooms for new arrivals out of hours to ensure a safe environment for staff and our young people.
Recording, Reporting, and Inspection Readiness
• Update inform case notes relating to your interaction with young people regarding support, concerns, safeguarding, case work completed.
• Provide clear written and verbal handovers to day staff highlighting safeguarding, environmental, and welfare updates
• Provide comprehensive and factual handover notes
• Maintain records that are GDPR-compliant and inspection-ready
Working as Part of a Team and Lone Working
Team Working:
• Collaborate with team members including Managers,
• Attend staff team meetings and contribute to young people risk management, service improvement, and reflective practice discussions
• Share information and support colleagues while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
• To work as part of a team to deliver a 24-hour provision that houses and supports vulnerable homeless young people
• Lone Working
• Follow lone working procedures, maintaining safety and vigilance for young people and staff
• Seek support from on-call managers when needed
• Make professional, proportionate decisions and maintain accurate records of actions taken
Other duties

To take responsibility to keep skills and knowledge up to date by attending relevant training to enhance skills and practice.
