Summary

SEND Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary and ongoing role starting April 2026

Staff work closely together to maintain high expectations, and pupils respond well to consistent, patient approaches that support emotional regulation, engagement and steady progress. Pupils with SEMH needs are supported through strong relationships, predictable structures and purposeful interventions.

Duties as SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide full-time SEMH support across KS2 pupils.
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils displaying emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Use de-escalation and regulation strategies to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Assist with classroom learning, modelling and reinforcing key skills.
  • Implement personalised behaviour and learning plans consistently.
  • Support pupils during transitions, routines and unstructured times.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND teams and pastoral staff.
  • Uphold safeguarding expectations and prioritise pupil welfare.

Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • SEMH/EBD experience is essential.
  • Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient, resilient and able to build positive relationships.
  • Skilled in behaviour management and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Able to follow guidance while using initiative when appropriate.
  • Reliable, proactive and committed to supporting pupil development.
  • Dedicated to safeguarding and promoting pupil well-being.
