Summary

Assistant Manager: Brass Monkey - Speciality Coffee Shop

Can you command a room with a smile, pull a perfect shot under pressure, and lead a team through the chaos of a Saturday morning rush?

We need an Assistant Manager who's equal parts coffee geek, people person, and natural leader—someone who walks onto the floor and instantly raises the energy.

About Brass Monkey

We're an independent speciality coffee shop at the heart of Radlett, and we're serious about what we do. Our customers know the difference between good coffee and great coffee. Our team works hard and looks out for each other. And we're growing—which means real opportunities for the right person.

The Role

You'll be the Manager's right hand and the team's go-to person. When things get hectic, you're the calm in the storm. When standards slip, you catch it before anyone else does. When a new starter needs confidence, you give them the tools to succeed.

This isn't just about keeping the ship afloat—it's about being the face customers recognise, the voice that sets the tone, and the personality that makes Brass Monkey feel like our place.

And here's the thing: nail this role, and the General Manager position is yours as we expand. This is a genuine stepping stone, not a vague promise.

You Need To Be

Coffee-obsessed (obviously)

2-3+ years behind the bar, with latte art that makes people reach for their phones
Confident dialling in grinders and maintaining consistency across every cup
Someone who actually cares when the espresso isn't quite right
A natural leader with presence

2-3+ years managing teams in hospitality—you know how to get the best from people
Friendly but firm: customers love you, staff respect you, and everyone knows where they stand
Upbeat and confident enough to handle the occasional difficult customer without breaking stride
Operationally sharp

Competent with POS/FOH systems and can troubleshoot on the fly
You see what needs doing before you're asked
High standards aren't something you enforce—they're just how you work
Ambitious

You're not looking for "just another job"—you want to grow with us
Ready to hit the ground running from day one
What We Offer

£40,000 (based on 48-hour contract)
Lunch on shift – because working hungry is miserable
Coffee on shift – obviously
Holiday pay + Pension scheme
Staff discount
Bonus structure – performance rewarded
Clear progression to General Manager – not "maybe," but genuinely mapped out as we expand

The Reality Check

This role is busy. It's full-on. Some customers will test your patience. Some days the grinder will act up mid-rush. But if you're the kind of person who thrives on that—who actually enjoys the controlled chaos of a packed café—this will feel like exactly where you belong.

Ready to be the person who makes Brass Monkey work? Let's talk.
