This role principally supports the Agency’s response to landfill site abandonment in the Staffordshire area but nationally too. The post holder will work closely with the Asset Management (Operations and Frameworks Contract Manager) on broader portfolio of waste and installation abandonment issues.

This role is primarily about meeting the acute operational needs today, whilst planning for future transitioning of sites, with partners, to an appropriate end-state. This role will also offer the opportunity to build expertise and capability within the organisation.

You will help deliver the programme of works to deal with risk of serious pollution. This will include maintaining oversight on contractors, as we work to secure cost effective, risk based, and timely interventions within the available legal and financial budgets. This role will often involve working at pace to address new and emerging issues, across different functions.

You will be confident to engage with variety of different people and remain resilient in challenging times. You will draw upon your experience from operational delivery, civils, or incident management setting to work effectively with contractors and deliver innovative solutions.

You will be highly motivated, self-led, with natural ability to influence others to problem solve and reach consensus. You maintain focus on delivering outcomes and importantly securing safe working practices onsite.

The role will require travel to site, sometimes at short notice, with occasional overnight stays. There will be additional support from others within Areas to ensure we maintain an acceptable operational presence.

The team

You’ll join our Abandonment Programme within the West Midlands Regulated Industry Team.

Although we’re a dispersed team, we do meet regularly, and seek to develop a wider virtual network with other technical and project teams across the country. You will report directly to the West Midlands Programme Executive.
