Primary Duties of the Position
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Station Chief, responsible for the complete oversight and direction of daily operations for a fire station with two or more crews, working on an assigned shift. The Chief directs the use of complex firefighting vehicles to combat airfield and structural fires, performs crash-rescue operations, and helps to reduce or eliminate potential fire hazards. The role includes supervising firefighting duties at airfields with complex aircraft and various facilities, such as large industrial complexes, as well as managing hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incidents. Furthermore, the Chief supervises the rescue and initial first aid for injured individuals, oversees the maintenance of all station equipment and facilities, and ensures strict compliance with all health, safety, security, and environmental procedures.
Duties are performed at RAF Croughton and RAF Fairford, as required/scheduled.
Qualifications & Key Skills required for this role
A valid UK driver's license (Category C) and one years specialized experience as a Firefighter demonstrating the key skills listed below:
1. Proficient in operating complex firefighting vehicles, with in-depth knowledge of hydraulics, firefighting techniques, and specialized equipment.
2. Knowledge of emergency first aid, HAZMAT response procedures, and all relevant safety regulations.
3. Knowledge of building design and construction, as well as modern aircraft design, including cockpit layouts and emergency systems.
4. Skilled in detecting fire hazards and operating communications equipment.
5. Strong written and oral communication, excellent interpersonal skills, and the physical ability to lift and carry heavy loads.
6. Proven ability to supervise and lead crews effectively under emergency conditions.
7. Certified as Fire Officer II (includes Fire Officer I), Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I & II), and HAZMAT Incident Commander (includes Awareness & Operations) or equivalent.

Conditions of employment for this role
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations and may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
2. You will be required to complete a 12-month probationary period.
3. This position works an operational shift pattern, potentially totaling 192 hours over a 4-week period, and is eligible for an Operational Firefighter Pay Supplement. Schedules are subject to change based on operational needs, and duties may include work in the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC). Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
4. This is a Mission-Essential role requiring the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions, participate in a mandatory physical fitness program, and use all provided safety equipment.
6. You must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance for this position.
7. While not subject to regular drug testing, you may be tested based on reasonable suspicion or after a safety incident.
8 You must maintain a current National Registry Emergency Medical Responder (NREMR) certification, and may also be required to obtain an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) certification.
Physical Requirements: A pre-appointment physical is mandatory and appointment is contingent on passing the physical. Annual physicals are a requirement of this role. The role also requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK.
