Summary

Are you a resilient, calm, and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant ready for an immediate start in Blackburn? Randstad is seeking a specialist to provide intensive support within a secondary school's inclusion unit. This is a full-time (5 days a week) short-term placement for 2 weeks, with the potential for extension based on the needs of the students.

This role is specifically designed for someone who excels in high-pressure environments and has a proven track record of de-escalating challenging behaviour while maintaining a supportive and therapeutic approach.

Responsibilities
  • Crisis De-escalation: Use specialist techniques (such as Team Teach) to manage high-level challenging behaviours safely and effectively.

  • Emotional Regulation: Act as a "calm circuit breaker" for students experiencing emotional dysregulation, helping them return to a state where they can engage with learning.

  • 1:1 Mentoring: Work closely with specific students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, building quick rapport to navigate the next two weeks successfully.

  • Inclusion Support: Assist the lead teacher in delivering a modified curriculum that caters to the emotional needs of the pupils.

  • Safeguarding: Maintain rigorous records of incidents and progress, ensuring all school safeguarding and behaviour policies are strictly followed.

Essential Requirements
  • Resilience: A thick skin and the ability to remain professional and empathetic when faced with verbal or physical aggression.

  • Proven Experience: Significant experience working with SEMH, ADHD, or ASC students in a secondary, PRU, or residential care setting.

  • Behavior Management: Evidence of successfully managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours.

  • Immediate Availability: The school needs support now-you must be ready to start work immediately for a 5-day-a-week schedule.

  • Compliance: An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one) and eligibility to work in the UK.

Why Choose Randstad?
  • Weekly Pay: Reliable PAYE payments every Friday (£90 - £110 per day).

  • Consultant Expertise: Direct access to Jessica Verndet, who specializes in placing support staff in rewarding local roles.

  • Training Access: Access to free accredited CPD, including Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Safeguarding.

  • Referral Scheme: Refer a fellow educator and earn £300 in shopping vouchers.

How to Apply

If you have the grit and the heart to support Blackburn's students through this 2-week block, please apply immediately. Send your CV to Jessica Verndet at jessica.verndet@randstad.co.uk.
