About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team at our Appley Bridge site. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, shows initiative, and enjoys working as part of a supportive, experienced engineering team.

You'll play a key role in maintaining and improving plant reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting safe, efficient production operations.

Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant and equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime
  • Conduct routine inspections and servicing of plant machinery
  • Work closely with production teams to improve equipment reliability and productivity
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, company policies, and safe systems of work
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment in line with engineering drawings
  • Strip, inspect, repair, and rebuild mechanical assemblies including:
  • Gearboxes
  • Pumps
  • Motors
  • Conveyors
  • Bearings and shafts
Liaise with external contractors when required Maintain high housekeeping standards

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally have:

  • Proven experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • A recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience working with LOTO, permits, RAMS, and risk assessments
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to changing production demands
  • Strong attention to detail and quality of work
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and respond to callouts when required
