About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Stoke-on-Trent. This is a full-time role supporting children with a range of complex needs, including Autism, Down syndrome, communication difficulties, SEMH needs, and learning disabilities. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure every pupil receives high-quality, individualised support.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with a variety of Special Educational Needs.
- Assist in creating and delivering personalised learning activities tailored to individual EHCP targets.
- Use strategies and resources to support pupils' communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs, and independence.
- Support the class teacher in managing behaviour using positive, trauma-informed approaches.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, therapists, and external professionals.
- Assist with personal care needs where required (training provided if necessary).
- Promote inclusion, engagement, and confidence both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Monitor progress, record observations, and contribute to review meetings.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for all learners.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN (school-based experience preferred but not essential).
- Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with pupils who have complex needs.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and emotional resilience.
- Understanding of Autism, Down syndrome, sensory needs, and behaviour support strategies.
- A genuine passion for supporting children to reach their potential.
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Relevant training ( Team Teach, Autism Awareness, Safeguarding) is beneficial.
