Summary
The post holder will be expected to provide specialist liver and pancreas surgery for the local community and for Wiltshire, Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
Patient care revolves around a team-based approach with individual consultants being responsible for their own patients care throughout their pathway. All cancer referrals are discussed by the multi-disciplinary team. The new consultant will be expected to participate in all aspects of patient care including out-patients, in-patient ward care, emergency general surgical take and an out of hours commitment to the care of the in- patients on a rotating basis. The clinical duties in addition to major cancer resections, will include management and treatment of complex benign pancreato-biliary disease including complicated severe acute pancreatitis, laparoscopic staging of malignancy and gallbladder surgery. Again, it is accepted that there may be a specific element of the above where the successful candidate will have a special interest and the duties of the other members of the team may be modified accordingly to accommodate this. Specific experience in independent advanced acute biliary and bile duct exploration is expected. The successful candidate will be expected to organise their workload and operate an appointment system in a manner that is consistent with good practice as laid out in the Trust's Policy for Management of Waiting Lists and Times
