Summary

his is a unique opportunity to shape a new nursery coming to Guisborough in early summer 2026.

Job Purpose

The Nursery Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the nursery, ensuring high standards of care, learning and development for all children in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted requirements. The Nursery Manager will role model best practice and support the nursery team in providing an enabling, welcoming environment in which all individual children play, learn and develop.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Leadership and Management

Role model best practice and support the team in providing an enabling, welcoming environment in which all individual children play, learn and develop.
Lead allocated nursery practitioners, ensuring that they are trained in their duties and appraised on their performance. This will include induction procedures, policies and procedures, and the supervision and appraisal cycle.
Encourage and motivate staff to have high expectations of all children and to demonstrate commitment to ensuring that they achieve their full potential.
Support a culture of team working with colleagues, attending regular team meetings and ensuring good communication between staff, parents/carers and partner agencies.
Recruit, support and retain high-quality staff in line with safer recruitment procedures.
Manage staff absence and performance issues in line with company policies.
Safeguarding

Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed in line with statutory guidance.
Ensure all staff understand safeguarding responsibilities and complete required training.
Be vigilant and advise the Company Manager of any concerns regarding children’s welfare, maintaining confidentiality as required.
Liaise with external agencies where necessary regarding child welfare concerns.
Curriculum and Quality of Provision

Participate in curriculum planning and implementation, providing an effective learning environment meeting Ofsted and Early Years Foundation Stage requirements.
Monitor the quality of teaching and learning across the setting.
Contribute to reports and monitoring to support the development of children and the nursery.
Lead continuous improvement of nursery practice through self-evaluation and action planning.
Demonstrate affinity with the Forest and Beach School ethos of the nursery setting.
Day-to-Day Operations

Manage the day-to-day activities of the setting including activity programming, planning staff rotas and ensuring staff-child ratios are maintained.
Maintain accurate nursery records in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Carry out tasks following set guidelines within the appropriate policies and procedures.
Support the nursery team in all duties including setting up and clearing away activities, preparation of snacks, and cleaning of the nursery and resources where required.
Financial Responsibilities

Be responsible for the financial running and overall delivery of a high-quality service.
Manage funded places to ensure that children receive the hours they are entitled to.
Ensure invoices are issued to parents for any additional items of expenditure incurred.
Support effective budget management where required.
Health and Safety

Ensure the nursery complies with all health and safety requirements, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
Maintain a safe and secure environment for children, staff and visitors.
Oversee accident and incident reporting and ensure appropriate follow-up.
Partnerships with Parents and Agencies

Build strong partnerships with parents and carers to support children’s development.
Manage parent enquiries, concerns and complaints professionally and in line with nursery policies.
Maintain effective working relationships with partner agencies and professionals.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Promote equality, diversity and inclusion and ensure all children have equal access to opportunities.
Support inclusive practice for children with additional needs.
Training and Professional Development

Undertake appropriate continuous professional development by attending supervision, training and meetings as required.
Cascade relevant training information to nursery team members.
Compliance and Inspection

Lead and prepare for Ofsted inspections and maintain compliance with statutory requirements.
Ensure nursery policies and procedures reflect current legislation and best practice.
General Duties

Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Company Manager.
Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

Essential

Hold a Level 3 qualification or above in Early Years or Education.
Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a manager or deputy manager within a childcare setting.
Hold an Enhanced DBS check suitable for working with children.
Hold certificates in Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding and Food Hygiene, or be willing to undertake these within the first month of employment.
Have English and Maths at a minimum of level 2 (equivalent to grade C/grade 4 GCSE)
Have a sound understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Have experience of leading and supporting staff.
Demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills.
Have a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Have experience managing nursery budgets and funded places.
Understand the importance of time outdoors and a connection with nature for young children.
