Summary
To assess visual fields at the request of medical and other staff using automated Humphrey perimeter and to liaise with the Head Orthoptist or other orthoptists over problems that may arise. To assess spectacle prescription using automated focimeter and interpret the results. To communicate effectively with patients, patients relatives and professional colleagues so that correct information is understood and passed on to the correct people. Communication with patients may often be difficult due to language and comprehension barriers. To transport and support wheelchair patients. To instil eye drops as requested by medical staff. Teaching To assist in the clinical teaching of new members of staff. To show how to perform tests to medical staff, nursing staff and others as requested. To undertake any necessary training courses/sessions. Governance Manage your own workload including allocation of tasks and prioritisation of workload to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the service. Undertake various administrative and clerical duties including using the HISS appointments system. Accurately record in the patient records all investigations carried out and ensure entries are dated and signed. Contribute to the effective day to day running of the department, assist in the development of good working practises e.g. help write policies and procedures, help to support other members of the team. To consult with users of the service to ensure requests are understood and undertaken accurately. Participate in audits and collect relevant data as required. Be responsible for all equipment used and ensure that the equipment is well maintained, secure and hygienic for clinical purposes paying cognisance to decontamination policies and procedures. Report faulty equipment promptly and arrange site visit if appropriate. To ensure an adequate supply of consumables is maintained. To attend all Trust mandatory training as required.
