Summary

Labourer (Electrical) - Job Description

We are currently seeking a reliable and hardworking Labourer to join our busy and growing team. The successful candidate will provide essential support to our qualified electricians on a variety of domestic, commercial, and light industrial projects. This will include preparing sites, handling materials, maintaining tidy and safe working areas, and assisting with basic installation and preparation tasks which do not require qualification.

As this role involves working on construction sites and with electrical trades, a strong commitment to health and safety and adherence to all relevant regulations and procedures is essential.

The ideal candidate will be physically fit, dependable, and eager to learn. You will have good practical skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively as part of a small team. We are looking for someone who takes pride in contributing to high-quality work, is proactive in keeping sites organised, and can handle the demands of a varied, hands-on role.

Key Responsibilities

The Labourer will be responsible for, but not limited to:
• Assisting electricians carrying, and preparing materials.
• Handling and transporting tools, equipment, cable reels, conduit, trunking, consumer units, and other electrical components safely.
• Preparing work areas: setting up access equipment, cordoning off zones, and ensuring safe access for tradespeople.
• Digging trenches or holes (by hand or small machinery) for underground cabling where required.
• Keeping sites clean and tidy: removing waste, sweeping, organising tools, and leaving work areas safe and presentable at the end of each day.
• Loading and unloading company vehicles; maintaining stock levels and keeping vans organised.
• Holding materials steady, passing tools, and providing general on-site assistance to electricians.
• Assisting with basic tasks such as running conduit, pulling cables, cutting materials, or minor preparation under direct supervision.
• Ensuring all work areas comply with company health and safety procedures and site rules.
• Working collaboratively with electricians, apprentices, and other site personnel.
• Reporting any hazards, damaged equipment, or concerns immediately.
• Maintaining company tools, equipment, and vehicles in good condition.

Skills and Competencies

• Physically fit with the ability to undertake manual labour (lifting, carrying, working at heights, outdoor work in all weather).
• Good practical awareness and ability to follow instructions carefully.
• Strong attention to detail in site tidiness and organisation.
• Excellent timekeeping and reliability.
• Ability to work independently on routine tasks and as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn electrical trade basics and support progression opportunities.
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Flexible approach to work and ability to adapt to different sites and tasks.

Qualifications and Experience Essential:

• Full UK driving licence (highly desirable for site travel).

Desirable:

• Previous experience as a general labourer, construction labourer, or trade assistant (especially in electrical, building, or maintenance).
• Experience working on domestic or commercial sites.
• Basic knowledge of hand/power tools (e.g., drills, saws, grinders).
• Basic understanding of site safety and manual handling.

Health and Safety

The Labourer must:
• Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
• Work in accordance with relevant construction and electrical safety regulations.
• Use appropriate PPE (provided) and ensure safe working practices.
• Report any hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions immediately.
