Champions Children’s Homes are recruiting a Waking Night Residential Support Worker to join our team at our residential children’s home in Cromford, near Matlock (Derbyshire).
This role involves supporting and safeguarding children and young people aged 10–17 with emotional and behavioural needs within a registered residential setting.
During night hours you will help maintain a safe, calm and stable environment, carry out welfare checks, respond to any needs that arise, and ensure the home is prepared for the following day.
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will remain awake and on duty throughout the night shift, monitoring the wellbeing of young people and responding appropriately to incidents or concerns.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Carrying out regular welfare checks in line with care plans and risk assessments
• Supporting young people who may experience anxiety, distress, or disrupted sleep
• Maintaining a calm and structured night-time environment
• Completing accurate records, night logs, and incident reports
• Supporting medication administration where trained
• Undertaking light household duties such as cleaning, laundry and preparing the home for the day ahead
• Reporting safeguarding concerns to the on-call manager when required
• Providing detailed written handovers to the day staff team
This is a rewarding role where your presence overnight helps provide security, stability and reassurance for vulnerable young people.
Full training and development will be provided for the right candidate.
Working Pattern
• Hours: 40 hours per week
• Shift pattern: 4 nights on / 4 nights off rota
• Shift length: 10 hour waking night shifts
Salary
• £14.10 per hour
• Approx £29,328 per year
Requirements
• Right to work in the UK (sorry, sponsorship is not currently available)
• Enhanced DBS check required (or willingness to obtain)
• Ability to work waking night shifts
• Positive attitude and commitment to safeguarding children and young people
Desirable
• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare
• Experience supporting children or young people
