Summary
Care Worker – Job Description
Job Purpose
To provide personal care and support to residents
To work flexibly within the care home setting, to promote the well-being of residents maintaining their dignity at all times.
Accountability
Responsible to and reports to the Deputy Manager. On a day to day basis the Care Worker will take instruction from the Senior Care Worker with responsibility for the shift.
Main Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out and record personal care tasks. This will include ensuring residents are comfortable, are able to eat and drink, are able to access and use toilets, are assisted with continence problems and are able to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance. Maintaining the dignity of residents is of paramount importance.
Follow best practice in relation to infection control measures and in moving and handling of residents
Contribute to the review care needs of all residents of the Home using approved care planning systems taking into account the wishes of residents and AWI assessment where relevant.
Review and propose amendments to risk assessments.
Assist and support residents to participate in social activities and outings to enhance the quality of life for residents.
Enable residents to maintain contact with supportive networks to prevent as far as possible potentially isolating situations from developing.
Provide empathetic and practical support to residents at times of loss.
Contribute to the care of a deceased person, including performing last offices if required, and provide support to other residents families and friends.
Qualifications and Experience
Eligible for registration with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a practitioner working in a care home for adults
SVQ 2 in Social Care or equivalent (minimum required for registration with SSSC).
Knowledge of legislation relating to care e.g. Adults with Incapacity Act.
Committed to work in a person-centred way that promotes the quality of life and maximises independence for all residents.
Sensitive to the needs of others
Able to relate to clients/residents and their carers and relatives.
Skills to be able to assess residents and contribute to care plans accordingly
Have an understanding of the importance of health and safety in the workplace and become familiar with the Policy of the Home
