As a Grounds Maintenance Operative in our Grounds Maintenance team, you’ll help keep outdoor spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for the communities we serve, supporting work that genuinely touches lives and shapes better environments.
You’ll play a key part in maintaining a high‑quality service across housing, highways, parks, and open spaces, working with care and pride to create places people can rely on.
What you’ll do as a Grounds Maintenance Operative
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly programme works as part of the planned maintenance regime.
- Undertake duties across all service areas of the Grounds Maintenance Contract, including housing, highways, parks, and open spaces.
- Understand contract requirements, ground conditions, and specifications for all grounds works.
- Identify and meet key performance indicators to support contract delivery.
- Report progress and issues to your line manager, supporting collaborative service improvements.
- Complete daily inspection, cleaning, and reporting procedures for all machinery and vehicles.
- Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety requirements.
- Undertake training to build skills and maintain knowledge of contract requirements.
- Maintain excellent relations with colleagues, clients, and members of the public.
- Present a professional and approachable appearance at all times.

- Experience using a range of grounds maintenance machinery.
- A positive, team‑focused approach to shared tasks and problem‑solving.
- An understanding of safe working practices and Health and Safety principles.
- Good communication skills when engaging with colleagues, clients, and the public.
- A flexible attitude to working across different sites and changing ground conditions.
- Driving licence is desirable
Vetting and checks:
A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed so we can ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
