The Southbank Centre spans 11 acres and includes the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Hayward Gallery, National Poetry Library and more. It welcomes millions of visitors each year and is one of London’s most iconic cultural destinations.

Purpose of the Role

The Door Officer plays a key role in ensuring safety, security, and exceptional visitor experience. You will be the first point of contact at entrances, maintaining a welcoming presence while ensuring venue policies and safety procedures are upheld.

Person Specification

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Strong situational awareness and vigilance.
  • Proactive and confident when engaging with the public.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual and well-presented at all times.
  • First Aid certification required.
  • Valid SIA licence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer a warm and professional welcome to all visitors.
  • Monitor entrances and surrounding areas to ensure a safe environment.
  • Engage proactively with visitors to offer assistance and prevent unwanted behaviour.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to safety alerts and instructions from supervisory staff.
  • Contribute to the smooth execution of evacuation and invacuation procedures when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with venue rules regarding bicycles, skateboards, and prohibited items.
  • Provide support to visitors with accessibility requirements, including the use of specialist facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to venue policies relating to alcohol, behaviour, and visitor safety.
  • Administer basic first aid.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism, situational awareness, and customer care at all times.

General Responsibilities

  • Cultivate strong working relationships with colleagues, partners, and the wider Southbank Centre teams.
  • Ensure uniform is worn correctly and maintained in good condition.
  • Assist with safety checks, reporting, and communication tasks.
  • Respond to alarms and follow safety protocols appropriately.
  • Undertake any reasonable additional duties required to support site operations.

Is this you

  • At least 18 years old
  • SIA Guarding or Door Supervision licence
  • 5 years checkable work and address history
  • Reliable, punctual, flexible, and smart in appearance
  • Friendly, approachable, and always professional
  • Enthusiastic and motivated to do a great job
  • Ideally some experience within a Security environment or a customer facing role
  • Able to interact with clients and customers in a positive manner
  • Some experience working within a Security environment and working as part of a team
  • Effective people skills, able to interact with clients and customers in a positive manner

Successful candidates will be required to provide original documentation for detailed screening and vetting processes. This could include the following: passport, driving licence, utility bill dated in the last 3 months, HMRC letter, original bank statement, birth certificate or a valid share code.
