Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated English Lecturer to join a forward-thinking college in Essex on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire and support learners studying English Language, English Literature, and Functional Skills English across a range of programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality teaching across English courses (e.g., GCSE English Language, Functional Skills, and/or A-Level English depending on the curriculum)

  • Plan engaging and inclusive lessons aligned with curriculum and awarding body requirements

  • Prepare learners for exams, coursework, and further academic progression

  • Assess, mark, and provide constructive feedback on learner work

  • Support learners' academic development, literacy skills, and confidence in English

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and assessment

  • Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance processes

  • Embed employability, communication, and critical thinking skills into teaching

Requirements
  • Relevant qualification in English, English Literature, Linguistics, or a related field (Degree preferred)

  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one

  • Experience teaching English in a Further Education or similar setting

  • Strong knowledge of GCSE/Functional Skills English curriculum and assessment methods

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and classroom management skills

  • Ability to engage and motivate learners with varying abilities and backgrounds
