Summary

The Role:We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Construction Technician to join our Construction department at Hackney Campus. You will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning by preparing practical workshops, maintaining tools and equipment, and ensuring a safe, engaging, and productive learning environment for all students.This is a hands‑on, dynamic role ideal for someone with strong practical skills and a passion for construction trades.Based in the heart of Hackney, this campus offers a vibrant, industry-focused environment with modern facilities that support high-quality skills training. Key Responsibilities:Prepare materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons and assessments.Set up and demonstrate tools, machinery, and equipment safely.Maintain and repair tools and machinery, keeping accurate servicing records.Ensure resources are stored and organised in line with college policies.Oversee and support students during practical sessions to maintain safe working practices.Manage stock levels, order supplies, and recycle materials where appropriate.Provide technical support to staff and respond to students’ practical needs.Assist in creating a high-quality, professional workshop environment.Who You Are:A relevant construction qualification or experience in construction trades.Practical knowledge of traditional and modern construction techniques.Experience working in construction, multi‑skills, or similar technical disciplines is beneficial.Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.Good understanding of health and safety in workshop environments.Friendly, clear communicator with the ability to support young people and adult learners.Willingness to work towards an Assessor’s Award.What We Offer:Pension: New City College provides a career average pension scheme for all staff (TPS or LGPS)Accessibility: All college sites are easily accessible for wheelchair users and via public transport (bus, DLR, or tube).On-Site Facilities: Free access to on-site gym facilities at some campuses and on-site cafes serving subsidised food and drinks.Staff Development: Five CPD (Continuing Professional Development) days per year, with access to industry-standard facilities and a collaborative working environment.
