Summary

Hamish Hamilton Editorial Intern

If you’re curious about literary fiction and non-fiction and want to understand how iconic books are shaped and launched, this could be the role for you.

A bit about the team and projects you'll work on:​

Hamish Hamilton is one of Britain’s most distinguished literary imprints, publishing original, essential and lasting fiction and non-fiction from around the world. With a rich backlist spanning writers from Susan Sontag to Zadie Smith, Robert Macfarlane to Deborah Levy, the team combines literary excellence with sharp commercial instinct. ​

Over eight weeks, you’ll gain exposure to every stage of the editorial process – from acquisition to publication. You’ll read and assess submissions, draft editorial reports, and write descriptive book copy. You’ll attend meetings with authors, agents and internal teams across design, marketing, sales and production, gaining a clear view of how a literary list is built and positioned. You’ll also support a focused backlist revitalisation project, identifying key titles for repositioning and refreshing copy for new audiences.

About our Summer Internship

This role is part of our summer internship programme at Penguin Random House UK. Please note that our summer internship is a positive action training programme, aimed at bringing new voices into the business. As a result, we will only be accepting applications from candidates who identify as coming from a lower socio-economic background. Summer interns will be expected to join us in the business for 8 weeks from Monday 6th July 2026.

Please note that this is a full-time hybrid position. You will be working from 9:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. You will be expected to be in person in our London office for at least 2 days per week.
