Location: Chingford
Salary: £12.71 per hour
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:45am start (36 hours per week)
Overtime: Occasional overtime available
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Cemetery Operative to support the delivery of a respectful and professional bereavement service. This is a hands-on outdoor role responsible for preparing graves, maintaining cemetery grounds and assisting during burial services.
The role requires someone physically fit, reliable and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, while also being sensitive and professional when working around bereaved families.
Key Duties
Digging and preparing graves by hand and with machinery
Backfilling graves and placing floral tributes
Operating plant and grounds maintenance equipment including diggers, dumpers, mowers and strimmers
Maintaining cemetery grounds (grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, pruning, weed control)
Ensuring burial areas are safe and accessible for mourners
Assisting with directing mourners during burial services
Driving vehicles between cemetery sites
Maintaining equipment and vehicles in line with safety standards
Requirements
Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
Experience with manual digging or grounds maintenance is a must.
Experience using plant machinery such as diggers, dumpers, mowers or strimmers is a must.
Physically fit and able to perform manual work
Professional, respectful and presentable when dealing with the public
