About the opportunity

This role sits in Accounting Operations within Group Finance, supporting the Balance Sheet Control team. It is a great opportunity if you enjoy organised, detail focused work and want to build experience in reconciliations, financial processes and change activity.

You'll work with preparers, reviewers and the wider Accounting Operations community to make sure reconciliations are accurate, timely and aligned to Group Minimum Standards. You'll also support project work, user acceptance testing and process documentation.

What you'll be doing

Business as usual (BAU) delivery and reconciliations

  • Complete assigned reconciliations accurately using agreed procedures and documented controls.
  • Cross check ledger balances to supporting evidence and raise discrepancies promptly.
  • Support SOX control activity by completing checks and evidence packs.
  • Apply strong attention to detail so reconciliations meet Group Minimum Standards, including GMS2 and GMS5.

Support for projects and transformation

  • Assist with project reconciliations and testing tasks with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Support user acceptance testing by following test scripts, logging defects and validating changes.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support so business as usual processes continue through periods of change.

Continuous improvement and controls mindset

  • Spot opportunities for small improvements such as clearer documentation or consistent evidence capture.
  • Follow agreed processes when making changes and call out when needed.
  • Build a deeper understanding of reconciliation processes and financial controls.
  • Use modern tools including AI such as Microsoft Copilot to improve efficiency where suitable.

Collaboration and stakeholder support

  • Work collaboratively with Accounting Operations, Finance Platform teams and the Group Finance Control community.
  • Communicate clearly when issues arise so risks, delays and dependencies are visible.
  • Contribute positively to team discussions and help a strong team culture.

Systems and tools

  • Use reconciliation tools such as AutoRek and Excel for daily and monthly tasks.
  • Use balance sheet substantiation tools such as Oracle ARCS.
  • Use accounting and source systems such as Oracle Fusion and core banking platforms.

What you'll need

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Good Excel skills, for example PivotTables, VLOOKUP and SUMIFS, with the desire to develop further.
  • Curiosity and an analytical mindset to understand the story behind balances.
  • Clear communication skills with a collaborative approach.
  • Commitment to high quality reconciliation and controls activity.
  • Supportive team member who can work in the Bristol office two days a week.
  • Experience using accounting systems is desirable but not essential.
  • Studying towards or interested in a finance qualification is desirable but not essential.
