Summary
This is a part-time consultant appointment to support our Clinical Biochemistry service, including our UKAS accreditation.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to a comprehensive Clinical Biochemistry Service for all users of the laboratory. The consultant will provide expert support for analytical quality and assay implementation, diagnosis and management of biochemical disease, advice on appropriate investigations on an individual patient basis, and determine the services provided by the Clinical Biochemistry/Immunology Department within the resources made available to the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA).
The post holder will be expected to participate in Research and Development activities within Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology, and within the Trust and the University of East Anglia, as appropriate.
The Consultant will be actively involved in training, particularly clinical scientists, biomedical scientists, other allied health professionals, and students of medicine, and may also be involved in Specialty Trainees training.
The Consultant Chemical Pathologist, along with other Consultants in the Department, will be responsible for the delivery of Clinical Biochemistry Services across all sites, as required. The Consultant will participate fully in EPA and Departmental functions, including the position of Head
of Department.
Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) represents the networked laboratories of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). The Department is the 6th largest UK laboratory in volume of tests (biochemistry and immunology combined). EPA serves a population of approximately 1,100,000 and processes approximately 15 million biochemistry and immunology tests annually.
The Department employs a total of 130 WTE staff and EPA has an annual budget of approximately £29 million.
The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust are now working in partnership as the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group.
