Summary

Key Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation and interventional procedures (e.g. coronary angiography, PCI, device implantation support). Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised nursing care pre-, intra-, and post-procedure. Assist with procedures in scrubbed, circulating, and monitoring roles as required, following appropriate training and competency assessment. Monitor patients vital signs, cardiac rhythm, and haemodynamic status during procedures and escalate concerns appropriately. Prepare patients physically and psychologically for procedures, obtaining baseline observations and ensuring informed consent processes are completed. Provide post-procedure care, including haemostasis management, observation for complications, patient education, and discharge planning. Respond effectively to emergencies, including cardiac arrest, following Trust resuscitation policies. Patient Safety and Quality Maintain a safe clinical environment, adhering to infection prevention and control, radiation safety, and health and safety policies. Safely check, prepare, and handle equipment, including pressure lines, monitoring systems, and contrast media. Accurately document all care provided in line with professional and legal standards. Participate in clinical audits, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives. Professional Practice Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Standards. Take responsibility for maintaining and developing clinical competence through continuous professional development (CPD). Participate in mandatory training, appraisals, and competency assessments. Support and supervise students, new staff, and learners as appropriate.Communication and Teamwork Work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team, including cardiologists, radiographers, cardiac physiologists, and support staff. Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, relatives, and colleagues. Escalate concerns regarding patient care or safety to senior staff promptly. Service Development Contribute to service improvement and development within the Cath Lab. Demonstrate flexibility to meet service needs, including participation in on-call rotas, extended days, or weekend working as required.
