Summary
Job Purpose
The Band 5 Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, and effective nursing care to patients within an NHS Trust hospital setting. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while maintaining professional standards in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct. The role requires the nurse to support patient recovery, promote health and wellbeing, and ensure compassionate, person-centred care at all times.
Key Responsibilities
The Band 5 Staff Nurse will be responsible for providing holistic care to patients with a range of medical, surgical, or complex health needs. This includes conducting comprehensive patient assessments, monitoring clinical observations, and recognising early signs of deterioration. The nurse will administer medications safely in accordance with Trust policies and ensure accurate documentation of all care delivered.
The post holder will work collaboratively with doctors, allied health professionals, healthcare assistants, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and effective patient care. They will contribute to ward rounds, care planning meetings, and discharge planning to ensure patients receive appropriate ongoing support following hospital treatment.
The nurse will also be responsible for maintaining infection prevention and control standards, ensuring patient safety, and adhering to safeguarding procedures where concerns arise. Maintaining patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality is essential in all interactions.
