We are looking for an experienced internal communications professional who can lead the development and delivery of engaging, strategic communications that connect our people with our purpose. It's a rewarding role that will help strengthen our organisational culture, drive employee engagement and work closely with senior leaders and colleagues across all business areas to ensure our staff have the information, tools and voice they need to succeed.

As the Senior Internal Communications Manager, you will work closely with the Head of Communications, senior leaders and all business areas within the VMD to provide strategic internal communications advice around narrative, messaging and channels that resonate with our workforce.

You will be at the forefront of developing an internal communications strategy and developing our internal channels, and ensuring all our internal communication content meets high levels of quality and accessibility.

Main duties of the role are:

  • From working on change communications plans, to raising staff awareness of organisational priorities and working collaboratively with corporate and project leads across VMD, the Senior Internal Communications Manager is responsible for keeping our people informed, engaged and connected. This includes managing internal platforms and channels, leading on employee engagement initiatives, supporting senior leader communications, and producing compelling content that brings our strategy to life for colleagues.
  • You will work with the Head of Communications to develop a VMD internal communications strategy and advise senior leaders on effective approaches to communicating with staff.
  • Build and use monitoring tools and feedback mechanisms to provide insights and analytics on our internal communications outputs, measuring engagement and impact to continuously improve our approach.
  • Keep up to date with internal communications best practice and Civil Service developments to inform our communications plans and ensure we remain at the forefront of employee engagement.
  • Create digital and editorial content and opportunities to enhance staff awareness of the VMD's priorities, our people, our services, and our achievements.
  • Build a strong internal communications culture, fostering two-way dialogue, ensuring consistent messaging across all internal platforms, including intranet, email, and all staff meetings.
  • Write and design a range of material to create useful and engaging internal communications using a range of channels and styles.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of key internal events and engagement activities, including all-staff meetings, leadership communications, and employee recognition programmes.
  • Work with senior leaders and line managers to amplify key messages and build communications capability across the organisation.
  • Comply with ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 27001 (information security) standards, and GDPR and Information Management requirements.
  • Act corporately – meeting, role-modelling, embedding, and championing the corporate objectives set by the VMD.
