Summary

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a qualified EAL Tutor to deliver personalised, one-to-one English language support to Looked After Children (LAC) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) who are needing support through the transition into mainstream education.
This role is perfect for an experienced ESOL teacher who is passionate about making a meaningful impact by providing engaging, tailored sessions that support these vulnerable students in improving their English, building their confidence, and engaging with learning.

The students you will support may be newly arrived in the UK, face challenges such as missed schooling, or have been displaced due to difficult circumstances. As an EAL Tutor, youll deliver lessons that meet their specific language needs, while also addressing emotional and social challenges, helping them feel safe, heard, and motivated to learn.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individual ESOL support to Looked After Children(LAC) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC), either in the home, foster care, or a safe community setting (library, learning hub).
- Design and deliver bespoke lesson plans to meet the unique learning needs of each student, integrating aspects of social and emotional support to ensure positive learning outcomes.
- Track and monitor student progress, adjusting teaching methods as required to ensure they continue to feel supported and engaged.
- Collaborate with social workers, foster carers, and other professionals to ensure a holistic and supportive learning experience for each student.


ROLE DETAILS
- Location: Newcastle
- Start date: ASAP
- Contract type: Temporary, ongoing
- Hours: Flexible - from 1 to 2 hours per session; part-time and full-time options available
- Pay rate: Up to GBP30 per hour


REQUIREMENTS
- Recognised ESOL teaching qualification (CELTA, CertTESOL, or equivalent)
- Minimum 6 months experience teaching ESOL in a UK setting, ideally with vulnerable learners such as CLA or UASC
- Understanding of the specific needs and challenges faced by Looked After Children (LAC) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC)
- Confident working independently and managing personalised learning plans for these learners
- A valid enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
- Right to work in the UK
