A specialist school in Sunderland is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to support pupils aged 4-19 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated communication and sensory needs.
This school places a strong emphasis on individualised learning, communication development and emotional wellbeing. Staff work together to create a structured, predictable environment where pupils feel safe and confident to engage in learning.
Your role will involve supporting pupils during lessons, helping them understand tasks, encouraging positive interactions and supporting their emotional regulation throughout the school day.
Many pupils communicate using a combination of visual timetables, Makaton, PECS and structured communication systems.
You will also support pupils during structured learning activities, transitions between lessons and sensory breaks, helping them remain calm and engaged.
