Summary

The SEND Classroom Support Assistant will support students aged 11-19 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to access a broad, inclusive, and engaging curriculum. Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff, you will provide tailored academic, behavioural, emotional, and social support to help students achieve their potential both inside and outside the classroom.

Your role will focus on removing barriers to learning and ensuring that every student feels supported, confident, and included within the school community.

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, and physical needs
• Support students in mainstream lessons and specialist SEN provisions
• Assist teaching staff in adapting classroom activities and resources to suit individual learning needs
• Encourage students to develop independence, confidence, and resilience
• Promote inclusion and active participation in school life

• Assist students with literacy, numeracy, and subject-based learning tasks
• Reinforce teacher instructions and clarify learning objectives
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teaching team
• Support pupils during assessments and examinations where appropriate
• Encourage students to remain engaged and motivated in lessons

• Implement behaviour strategies in line with the school's behaviour policy
• Support pupils in developing emotional regulation and positive social behaviours
• Help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment
• Build strong, supportive relationships to encourage engagement and wellbeing

• Provide support with mobility, toileting, feeding, or personal care needs when necessary
• Ensure all support is delivered with dignity, respect, and safeguarding awareness

• Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral teams, and external professionals
• Support the implementation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
• Attend staff meetings, SEN reviews, and training sessions
• Communicate effectively with staff and parents/carers where appropriate

• Experience working with young people aged 11-19
• Understanding of Special Educational Needs and inclusive education practices
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
• Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, or SEMH needs
• Knowledge of EHCP processes and SEN support strategies
• Training in safeguarding, behaviour management, or first aid
