Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Technical Team Leader to join our Psychology Technical Team. You will lead a small team, manage specialist laboratories, and work closely with academic colleagues to deliver high-quality technical support and foster innovative practice.
As Technical Team Leader, you will take responsibility for the psychology technical area and ensure that team members understand and achieve their objectives. You will plan and organise technical support for practical classes and projects, ensuring that deadlines are met and standards maintained.
Managing resources will be a key part of the role, including overseeing consumables and equipment, ensuring they are maintained and deployed effectively, and advising on procurement by liaising with manufacturers and suppliers and making recommendations to budget holders. You will also design and deliver training and instruction to students in specialist spaces and laboratories, assessing practical skills within a competency framework aligned to programme learning outcomes.
Health, safety, wellbeing, and security arrangements for the technical area will fall under your responsibility, ensuring compliance with university and legal requirements and escalating issues as needed. You will represent the Psychology Technical Team at management meetings and college initiatives and commit to gaining HEA Fellowship as part of your professional development.

About you

You will need good leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to support and guide others while managing priorities effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are important for working collaboratively with staff and students. You should be confident in problem-solving, have attention to detail, and be comfortable managing technical environments. Knowledge of psychology techniques and equipment is essential, along with a flexible approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.

This is a full -time, permanent post, working 37 hours per week.

This role is campus based with only the occasional opportunity to work from home outside of teaching weeks.
