Start date: 2026 start (exact date TBC)
Hours: 37.5 hours a week term time +75 hours p/a non-term time (40 weeks per year), (Hours per week are negotiable and can be discussed at interview)

Person Specification
We are seeking a passionate and inspiring Pre-School Manager to lead our wonderful team of Early Years Practitioners.
The ideal candidate will be:
• Dynamic, forward-thinking and adaptable
• Confident in leading a team and supporting high-quality practice
• Able to think on their feet and respond effectively to the needs of the setting
• Warm, approachable and skilled at building strong relationships with families and professionals
• Aligned with our ethos and values – with plenty of energy, passion and a good sense of humour!
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as you will work closely with staff, families, external agencies and the committee.
Our Team
You will be joining an experienced, supportive team of Early Years Practitioners with a range of skills and strengths. Practitioners work with groups and on a 1:1 basis with children where needed.
You will also work alongside the Business Manager, who oversees day-to-day administrative and financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the Pre-School in line with Ofsted requirements and the EYFS framework.
• Act as the Ofsted Nominated Individual.
• Serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Ensure robust safeguarding, health & safety and wellbeing practices.
• Oversee planning, observations and assessments to support children’s development.
• Inspire, support and supervise staff through mentoring, supervisions and training.
• Foster strong, positive relationships with parents and carers.
• Effectively manage staffing levels and deployment.
• Upload observations, 2-year checks and baselines to our parent portal.
• Drive continuous improvement across the setting.
• Work collaboratively with external agencies, including health visitors, schools, Essex County Council services and specialist teachers.
• Support the Business Manager with administrative tasks such as registers, ordering and supplies.
• Work closely with the Business Manager and Committee on budgeting and financial planning.
• Keep the Management Committee informed of relevant developments.
• Join the Management Committee and Companies House as a director.
• Attend Management Committee meetings as required, providing updates, insights and professional input to support decision-making.
• Attend the setting outside of term time when required, for tasks such as maintenance checks, site improvements, deep cleaning, tidying or supporting essential works.
• Participate in fundraising events and support fundraising activities as part of the pre-school’s community engagement.
• Undertake any additional duties required to ensure smooth running of the pre-school.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
• Minimum level 3 Early Years qualification (or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a pre-school or nursery setting.
• Previous managerial or supervisory experience.
• Level 3 in Maths
• Strong leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer literacy.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
• Current safeguarding certificate.
• Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
• Current Food and Hygiene Certificate.
• Full Driving Licence.
Terms of employment
• Hourly rate: £15.69
• Annual Salary: £26,829.90 (Based on 37.5 hours x 40 weeks + statutory holiday pay)
• Contract: Term Time Only (40 weeks) + 5.6 weeks paid holiday.
• Must have the right to work in the UK.
• Two references required prior to start date.
