Summary

Detailed job description and main responsibilities To provide an effective Radiology service to PAH Trust, within departmental protocols. To be pro-active in own self-development and maintain record of CPD. To use computerised and manual methods to update patient records for each examination To take an active role in the implementation of IT and Radiology projects, such as the implementation of RIS, PACS, PAS, electronic requesting. To participate in departmental QA and Audit programmes To attend all mandatory training To be responsible for the use of expensive x-ray equipment. To report problems and equipment malfunctions quickly to the Superintendent Radiographer, keeping records as directed To report incidents and/or potential accidents within the department, in line with Trust policy To be responsible for the safe use of x-ray equipment within the department and around the hospital, including on wards and in theatre. To communicate with a broad range of patients prior to examination, to ensure consent is obtained, identification is confirmed and if applicable pregnancy status is established. This may include patients whose first language is not English or those who have difficulty understanding due to their medical condition. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of professional and clinical work To undertake the positioning, manipulation and handling of patients (within the Manual Handling Protocols) to obtain diagnostic x-ray images. This may include light to moderate lifting. To be able to recognise when an image is diagnostic To move heavy x-ray equipment in a way that will not cause harm to self or others To be able to deal with many, often conflicting, demands on attention at the same time, while remaining focused on current task To be able to recognise gross pathology on radiographic images and expedite reporting process if necessary, identifying noted fractures with “Red Dot” as appropriate To perform plain film and mobile x-ray examinations To provide a radiographic service to theatre To form part of the on-call and out of hours duties To perform CT examinations To perform dental radiographic examinations, requiring strict hygiene protocols To assist with fluoroscopic procedures To plan and prioritise own workload To work flexibly to cover evening and weekend sessions within contracted hours To communicate effectively with patients, relatives, peers, clinicians, and other staff throughout the organisation To maintain the principles of patient confidentiality at all times To work as part of a team and with minimal supervision To support and supervise student Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and junior Radiographers To comply with IR(ME)R, IRR and local radiation regulations, as instructed by the Radiation Protection Supervisor While working in the Accident and Emergency Department, to attend trauma calls and undertake x-rays in the Resuscitation Room. This involves dealing with severely injured patients. This may be emotionally upsetting.
